Masters

Despite the Chatter, a Wide-Open Masters
Phil Mickelson watched a shot during a practice round at Augusta National on Wednesday

AUGUSTA, Ga. — Aside from the back nine on Sunday, when results crystallize and the winner emerges, the best part of the Masters is the entire day on Thursday, when the tournament finally begins and all the speculative chatter ends.
There is no sound like the silence that envelopes the first tee behind the manor clubhouse at Augusta National just after the starter says, as he will for the 7:45 a.m. threesome: “Fore, please, Jonathan Byrd driving.”
Byrd may or may not emerge as a story line in this 75th Masters. But when he strikes the first tee ball, the loud report will mark the official start of the year’s first major, an event that is still — despite what one might have read, heard or seen in the run-up — wide open.
Phil Mickelson leapt into the unfilled role of favorite when he won easily at the Shell Houston Open last week, blistering the weekend with rounds of 63 and 65. He will have two drivers in the bag this week, just as he did in 2006 when he followed an 11-stroke win at Atlanta with his second Masters championship.
“To be able to have that type of performance heading into here feels very good,” Mickelson said. “Reminds me a lot of 2006 when I was able to put it together the week before and carry the momentum through.”

Barcelona

Barcelona 5 Shakhtar Donetsk 1

Barcelona march on relentlessly in Europe and they do not even have to be at their truly sublime best. Their defence was ragged, they were given a proper test by a team of real pedigree and yet they still won with oceans to spare.
Daniel Alves celebrates scoring Barcelona's second goal against Shakhtar
A four-goal cushion to take to Donetsk’s formidable fortress in the second leg of this quarter final means they can now already start plotting for a semi-final and an extraordinary sequence of four games in 15 days against Real Madrid following their deadly rivals’ hammering of Spurs.
Heck, we may well soon be all Clasico-ed out and you would not be surprised if Jose Mourinho’s men end up all Barca-ed out too.
Josep Guardiola was only too aware of the potential dangers since a poorer Shakhtar side than this had beaten his men here the last time the teams had met in December 2008. His concern was to ensure a decent cushion for the return to Donetsk, where Shakhtar have not been beaten in 55 matches stretching back two and a half years, so a fast start was imperative.
His wish was their command. Almost before the strains of their infernal club anthem had died down, they had taken the lead with their very first attack. Lionel Messi, with some inevitability, started it with a probing through ball and when the ball pinged off two Shakhtar defenders like a pinball, Andres Iniesta picked up the scraps, scuttling through to slot beneath Andriy Pyatov.

Loan Officer Compensation

Hearing on Loan Officer Compensation Changes Scheduled Today:

the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia issued a temporary stay on the implementation of new laws regulating loan officer compensation.  The stay came in appellate court after motions for temporary restraining orders by the National Association of Mortgage Brokers (NAMB) and the National Association of Independent Housing Professionals (NAIHP) failed in district court.
When the stay was issued, the court gave the government until Monday, April 4th, to answer the concerns of NAMB and NAIHP.  Their response to the legal issues raised by NAMB and NAIHP can be found here. NAMB and NAIHP had until today (April 5th) at 10 AM to file a response to the government’s response (click here to read response).  A further hearing on the matter is expected today.
The rules, originally due to take effect on Friday, April 1st, were intended to prevent loan officers from taking advantage of borrowers by:
  • Preventing loan officers from being compensated by both the borrower and the lender
  • Preventing loan officers from being compensated based upon the interest rate or other terms of a loan
  • Preventing loan officers from steering borrowers into a mortgage not in the borrower’s best interest in order to increase the loan officer’s compensation.
Although well-intentioned, many fear that the rules will increase consolidation in the industry, decrease competition, and eventually increase borrowing costs for consumers.  Some also fear that the rule favors large banks and loan originators while hurting smaller lenders.  In addition to the industry groups, some senators and representatives urged the Fed to wait to implement the changes.
As soon as there is an outcome from the hearing, I will post it here.

Vehicle insurance Canada

The thought that the have bought the best car insurance

Several Canadian provinces (British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Quebec) provide a public auto insurance system while in the rest of the country insurance is provided privately. Basic auto insurance is mandatory throughout Canada with each province's government determining which benefits are included as minimum required auto insurance coverage and which benefits are options available for those seeking additional coverage. Accident benefits coverage is mandatory everywhere except for Newfoundland and Labrador. All provinces in Canada have some form of no-fault insurance available to accident victims. The difference from province to province is the extent to which tort or no-fault is emphasized. Typically, coverage against loss of or damage to the driver's own vehicle is optional - one notable exception to this is in Saskatchewan, where SGI provides collision coverage (less than a $700 deductible, such as a collision damage waiver) as part of its basic insurance policy. In Saskatchewan, residents have the option to have their auto insurance through a tort system but less than 0.5% of the population have taken this option.

Vehicle insurance Australia

Vehicle insurance (also known as auto insurancecar insurance, or motor insurance) is insurance purchased for cars, trucks, and other road vehicles. Its primary use is to provide protection against physical damage and/or bodily injury resulting from traffic collisions and against liability that could also arise there from.

Australia

In South Australia, Third Party Personal insurance from the Motor Accident Commission is included in the licence registration fee for people over 17. A similar scheme applies in Western Australia.
In Victoria, Third Party Personal insurance from the Transport Accident Commission is similarly included, through a levy, in the vehicle registration fee.
In New South Wales, Compulsory Third Party Insurance (commonly known as CTP Insurance) is a mandatory requirement and each individual car must be insured or the vehicle will not be considered legal. Therefore, a motorist cannot drive the vehicle until it is insured. A 'Green Slip, another name by which CTP Insurance is commonly known due to the colour of the pages which the form is printed on, must be obtained through one of the five licenced insurers in New South Wales. Suncorp and Allianz both hold two licences to issue CTP Greenslips - Suncorp under the GIO and AAMI licences and Allianz under the Allianz and CIC/Allianz licences. The remaining three licences to issue CTP Greenslips are held by QBE, Zurich and IAL - NRMA.
In Queensland, CTP is a mandatory part of registration for a vehicle. There is choice of insurer but price is government controlled in a tight band.
These state based third party insurance schemes usually cover only personal injury liability. Comprehensive vehicle insurance is sold separately to cover property damage and cover can be for events such as fire, theft, collision and other property damage.
